A flexible, customizable program

With strengths in both pure and applied mathematics, our program supports study and research that ranges from focused to interdisciplinary.

You'll design a program with your faculty advisor to create a curriculum that best suits your needs and goals.

Students who enter without a prior graduate degree typically earn a University of Minnesota Master’s in Mathematics en route to the PhD, upon completing 30 credits and the preliminary written exams.

Offers of admission to our PhD program include a financial support package, typically a graduate assistantship, renewable for up to six years.
