thinking out loud about a reaction I had
Nov. 28th, 2013 12:05 amI just mentioned to one of my friends that I was surprised to see groups of guys going to see Catching Fire. He said he didn’t get why I was so surprised.
How do I explain it?
( Wherein I chase some thoughts )

May. 27th, 2013 07:25 pmI saw Star Trek Into Darkness over the long weekend. It was... okay.
I really liked the 2009 movie and the cast. In fact, in this movie, I liked the cast/characters. I didn't really care for the story.
( What I didn't like )
Like I said though, I still really enjoyed seeing the characters.
( What I liked )
Liked certain moments and where the story ~could've gone.

( Reaction in outline form )
P.S. For Avengers 2/Phase Three or w/e, I REALLY want to see Carol Danvers. Solo Captain Marvel movie or bust.

May. 4th, 2013 08:37 pmX-posted in a bunch of places for... posterity? Just finished S1 of Young Justice. My sort of liveblog of the season finale and comments below.

rolling out of the ocean
Apr. 28th, 2013 10:51 pmOops, late x-posting because I'm weird and x-post manually. (I know I can set it up via DW; I just haven't gotten around to it.)
Long time, no see. How's everyone been doing?
Saw this meme floating around:
What are you reading/watching now?
Started Young Justice today. Not sure if I'm going to continue it, but it's intriguing. I also started Game of Thrones a while back but haven't moved past the fourth episode of S1, so I don't think that doesn't really counts.
I'm reading The Battle for America 2008. Super interesting to read about the campaigns (the strategy, the people, the narrative that comes out of history), and it's detailed and (surprisingly) compelling. (Yet I'm going at a snail's pace, sigh.)
What did you just finish reading/watching?
I was excited about This Is How You Lose Her, considering that it's by Junot Diaz, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. Diaz's writing has flair though, no doubt.
The first paperback trade of Captain Marvel. I didn't think the story was that tight, but I loved the introduction to Carol (at least it was an introduction for me), and there were some lovely character interactions and reflections. (Thinking of this quote in particular.)
Watched 써니 (Sunny) last weekend. I loved this movie. It goes back and forth between the present and past and starts off with Nami in middle-age. She bumps into Chunhwa, her old school friend, who has cancer. Chunhwa asks Nami to assemble their friends one last time, and the movie follows how Nami finds them and goes down memory lane along the way. It's a sweet-bitter look at the past, and it's funny and full of heart and nostalgia and great music.
What will you read/watch next?
Iron Man 3! Star Trek Into Darkness! 8) Summer movies, all the way.
Any book recs, anyone? Have you read anything lately that was funny or made you beam in delight?

Since it's National Poetry Month, I'll end with a poem:

Since it's National Poetry Month, I'll end with a poem:
Have you forgotten what we were like then
when we were still first rate
and the day came fat with an apple in its mouth
it's no use worrying about Time
but we did have a few tricks up our sleeves
and turned some sharp corners
the whole pasture looked like our meal
we didn't need speedometers
we could manage cocktails out of ice and water
I wouldn't want to be faster
or greener than now if you were with me O you
were the best of all my days
—Frank O'Hara, "Animals"

Feb. 7th, 2013 12:38 amAt 12:30 am, this seemed like a pressing question (especially after doing some physics problems). Should I get a Twitter account? Mostly, I've been "Meh" because I don't think I'd be that interesting, but apparently it's a happening place to be. Am I going to get sucked into it like Tumblr? What do you DO? (I know, your experience is what you make of it.) Oh gosh, am I going to literally word-vomit/brain-dump? Is the world prepared for this?

thoughts on tech
Jan. 19th, 2013 06:49 pmI know it's not that big a deal, but I think the names of Stark tech - StarkPhones, StarkPads, etc. - don't make sense. E.g., we have don't a JobsPhone or a PageTab. Gadget names have some kind of thread that aren't related to their companies' executive officers. E.g., Android mobile OSs are named after sweets: Cupcake, Gingerbread, Jelly Bean. Or think about various tablet names: (Samsung) Galaxy, (Google) Nexus, etc.
Also, Stark Industries was a defense contractor/weapons company. So (in my mind) it's more along the lines of Boeing, Lockheed Martin, etc., which don't provide Internet-related products/services or consumer electronics/software. I get that Stark Industries is a tech company (and Tony is a genius), but I don't see it producing everyday tech along with weapons or transitioning into it quickly/easily after Tony shuts down the weapons division? Am thinking combat systems (planets/jets, bombs, etc.) vs. computers and smart phones. I can see SI still doing R&D, electronics, and aeronautics; maybe the direction would be more towards fuels and energy sources since Tony's going the energy route?
