I had set an alarm so was awake to get the "substitutions" text from safeway, but since delivery wasn't for hours yet I laid back down and dozed for another couple of hours. Yay, semi-decent sleep?
These California Condors Might Be Tending to the Species’ First Egg in the State’s Northern Region in More Than a Century
Experts haven’t confirmed the existence of an egg, but the nesting birds’ behaviors suggest one was laid in early February
The possible egg is cause for celebration. But scientists are also tempering their expectations, because the first egg laid by a newly mated condor pair doesn’t usually survive, as the adults are inexperienced.
This quote from Rick Wilson is so on target, and made me laugh like hell: "Trump has as much historical, diplomatic, geographic, political, and cultural knowledge of the Gulf (and Iran in particular) as the average toaster oven"

Portland Will Host the International Women’s Sports Film Festival in May
The new festival is a project by Sports Bra founder and CEO Jenny Nguyen.
The Sports Bra famously broadcasts only women’s sports on its televisions. Starting this spring, the Northeast Portland bar will turn its attention to the big screen. The inaugural International Women’s Sports Film Festival will be held at the Judy Kafoury Center for Youth Arts in downtown Portland on May 1–3. The festival will be dedicated entirely to films about women and nonbinary athletes.
...
“The stories of women in sports deserve a permanent and unapologetic platform in film and in culture,” Nguyen said. “While many of these films confront challenges, they also celebrate progress and joy. Each story highlights breakthroughs, representation, and the growing visibility of women athletes who are reshaping the future of sports. Every athlete on screen is a main character, and this festival ensures their voices get the attention they deserve.”
Question of the Day
Harry Houdini was born today in 1874. Are you a fan of magic shows? Have you ever seen someone perform close-up magic?
I'm not really a major fan, though it's interesting to try to figure out just *how* they might be achieving those effects. I've seen a few amateurs perform in person, and televised masters like Penn & Teller on occasion, though don't really go looking for them.
They Joked About Discovering a Forgotten Masterpiece. Now, Experts Say They’re the Unwitting Owners of an Original Rembrandt
“Vision of Zacharias in the Temple” had been removed from the Dutch painter’s oeuvre in the 1960s. But when the owners brought it to the Rijksmuseum, scholars decided to conduct a close analysis
“No art historian had laid eyes on the picture since 1961,” writes Bikker in an article for the Burlington magazine, which explains the new attribution. “Vision of Zacharias in the Temple is an example of a painting that has been mistakenly excluded from Rembrandt’s oeuvre since the mid-20th century on the basis of evaluation using photographic reproductions rather than first-hand examination.”
