I have standard Slope map created in ArcGIS Pro 3. I need to convert it somehow to a Scaled Cost layer for use in Network Analyst, to create Service Areas. The context is that I have a manual walking speed for Older people, and I need to reduce that walking speed for each polygon based on the slope. So for example if the walking speed is set for 3.57 kms per hour and the slope is between 10 and 20% - the walking speed would decrease by 4.27%. I want to do this in bands of 10% if possible. Basically the crux of the problem is to reduce the walking speed based on the slope. I can't seem to reclassify the slope map in a way that its usable in the Scaled Cost in the Service Area. Could anyone give me a step by step guide?
- 1Slope doesn't work well for that sort of cost surface as the cost depends on the direction a person/thing is travelling. Going across a steep slope has no cost (assuming a good road/path) as it's flat in the direction of travel, going downhill (for gentle slopes) is easier than uphill or no slope, but gets harder when the downhill slope increases.
