My personal fanfic journal. Although I've been a closet geek in my tastes for a very long time, being part of a fandom was something that happened later in life for me -- fandoms that interest me include Tolkien, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire, Dr Who, Discworld and Watchmen -- and am really revelling in sharing similar tastes with other people, because most people that I meet in my daily life don't (they just give me strange looks). My past loves, but not necessarily fandoms, include: Life (TV series), Life on Mars (UK), Buffy/Angel, Harry Potter, Simon Pegg/Nick Frost, Spaced, Black Books, Band of Brothers, Walking Dead, anything by Alan Moore (in particular Swamp Thing, Miracleman and John Constantine), Bob Dylan, Dune, Asimov's robots...

On a meta level, I'm interested in exploring how fanon develops and also in how fics are written collaboratively, and how to develop a primarily literary form of analysis that, at the same time, takes into account the different reading and writing practices of online fan fiction.

I'm also working in university as a lecturer. I prefer to keep my fan activities and research work as separate as possible (ethics and fun). I'm in my 40s, have a cat and raising two girls on my own.

Friending Policy

I treat my friend list as a reading list, but it doesn't mean that if you're not on my friends list, I'm not reading your journal. I don't mind if you don't friend me back, but, if you have stuff that you have locked to your friends, and that stuff is relevant to my interests (see list), that'll make me ;_;

I sometimes may lock certain entries for certain groups, to spare the others stuff that probably won't interest them. For instance, if I see you've done some Watchmen stuff in the past, I'd probably put you in that group. I have a 'real life' circle too where I'd post more regularly.
