It's true, I do. Miscellaneous life updates, ho!

Internship is still fucking amazing, and I 100,000% want to end up at this company, if at all possible. A more generalizable highlight is that this experience (and talking to people in the field/adjacent to the field who might be looking for this stuff) is helping me to figure out what I want to do with the rest of the grad degree (in terms of classes/what to focus on). I'm a bit sad that I probably won't end up applying to archives jobs, but I'm not actually sad that I won't have to force myself to take archives classes that aren't super interesting to me (in comparison with other courses), which is probably a kind of clear indication that I'm on the right path, at least in terms of coursework.

We ordered some new pillow inserts and such from Ikea a month or so ago, and they came earlier this week. They also came with an entire second box of someone else's order, that had accidentally been labeled to ship to us. Luckily, there was a packing slip inside so we could figure out that much, but Ikea's customer support is so swamped/limited right now that I spent the entire week trying to call them off and on to tell them about the wayward package, and couldn't even make it to a hold queue. Yes, they're so busy that their hold queue was full. So I've saved the packing slip and shoved the other person's stuff in a closet. The box is huge, and we can't keep it in the middle of the living room, no matter how much Leia wishes we would. As soon as it crosses the doorway, it's hers! Them's just the rules, humans :P

Speaking of la chatte, yesterday she went from lying down in the middle of the living room (on her favorite foam pad) to somehow managing to book it partially into my office (right off the living room) in the time it took me to get inside the door. I tried to close the door on her middle for a hot second before I realized and JUMPED back to let go of the door. I felt terrible, and of course she was completely fine and just wanted to be inside the closed door, but I managed to bang my heel on the radiator knob as I was jumping back in horror. And of course, it was the ankle that I sprained in May! Oh, bodies. Pain in a new part of my ankle, boo, fist-shake. Doing my PT would probably help...

Overall, body's been okay. Finally got to see my PT virtually (and then once in person, ugh) so I have exercises for my ankles again. This time, I even wrote them down, hopefully in enough detail that next time I inevitably do this, I don't need to wait to see him to begin doing exercises. Podiatrist made me come in also, but luckily agrees that this is a much less intense sprain than last time and I don't need to go in the boot. Hopefully I won't need to see her again, unless the PT doesn't cut it and I need another cortisone shot. I think I'll be okay, though, especially since I'm walking so much less than last time I sprained it and was still trying to do a commute+job that involved >=10,000 steps/day.

In happy plant news, my zz plant, which has been through so damn much in the ~6? 7? years it's been with me, and which I almost managed to kill while trying to divide about ~15 months ago (est?), has a new baby stalk!!!! For the first time since I almost killed it, I finally think it's doing okay and is maybe even happy. It makes me feel so good to have cared for this plant well enough to save it, and have it to take care of and enjoy for many more years :)

Close-up of new zz plant stalk (approx 2 inches), just beginning to unfurl.

Hope you're all doing okay and staying as safe as possible, and that you aren't melting in the heat (or freezing in the cold, if you're in the Southern Hemisphere).

I'm so glad the internship is doing well!

I don't know ikea specifically but iirc every other time I've gotten someone else's stuff, I've just been told to keep it. Their mistake, my new tee-shirt, is I guess the logic. The person who didn't get it probably reported it as a lost package and got a replacement order sent.

Hope the ankle does better! Can you ask your PT for print outs with pictures? The pictures don't always match the exact instructions, but I tend to scan them and write them out in Word; only one time was I given a website instead of a handout. And then this year I finally got around to consolidating all of my PT exercises given to me in the last decade into a spreadsheet, so I can go "I need a back exercise that is done standing up" and find that specific one, plus I can discover that multiple therapists have told me to do the exact same exercises, huh, maybe I should stop dropping that one. ;)
