This question is about Why did so many OS names end in "x?" [closed] and Why were there so many OSes that had the name "DOS" in them?.

The questions are very similar, (but obviously not duplicates!) and one has been closed for needing more focus, and the other has been left open.

Why is this? I don't see any merit that the DOS question has over the -X question.

The DOS question is focused specifically on operating systems with “DOS” in their names; the -x question is broader than its title suggests, bringing in POSIX, ActiveX, and Xbox, which aren’t operating systems.

Not only that, but that “DOS” consistently stands for “disk operating system” – as opposed to being just a coincidentally recurring random string of letters. So it’s natural to assume the software would be related, whereas the same is not quite as warranted with just a single letter. Commented Sep 21 at 20:35

The DOS question asks about DOS systems, but the X one is simply about the letter X, bare of any other meaning. This was explicit clarified in a comment made by the author: "I wasn't really interested in operating systems, I was interested in the use of the name X". Asking about a single letter in any possible context at best a rhetorical one, not geared toward any answer - more realistic it's simply meaningless.
