I regularly run into problem authorizing a new instance via the web flow ("sf org login web ...") and until recently I used the device flow ("sf org login device ..."). But with the latest production instance I keep getting the error:

"Error (SfError): Request Failed: invalid_grant device flow is not enabled for the app"

I also see the "Warning: Device Oauth flow is deprecated and will be removed mid January 2026."

I go into the instance and to Setup/Manage Connected Apps and find the Salesforce CLI and edit it. There's no option to "enable device flow." I've updated the app to the latest version.

Am I missing something here, or is it now impossible to use the device flow to authorize the CLI for some instances?

Yep, based on BritishBoyInDC's link, the device flow is gone as of 28 August. I'll be learning a new approach like JWT.
