I am trying to add Access Database files to a SharePoint page, and I have encountered several issues: .accdb files are not supported when uploaded and links to shared drives are not accepted in a quicklink section or as a hyperlink in a text box (file://domain/X:/folder/doc.accdb).

So far, I tried changing formatting on the file link (forward- v. back-slashes) and uploading short-cuts of the files (SharePoint tries to open .accdb file in browser). It is preferable that the file use the shared drive versus having a copy of the file on SharePoint that is not linked/connected to the original.

Access is not a web database and Microsoft has abandoned all attempts to make it into one. Access runs best in the context of a local Windows environment. If you need cloud based data storage, Access is not it.

Integrating any kind of Access database with SharePoint is bound to fail, because of the clash of stale, legacy Access architecture and the ever evolving, constantly changing, browser based, client-side scripting model approach used for SharePoint online.
