This is the journal and venting space of a cranky and decrepit old warhorse (female variety, pronouns she/her) who is medically retired from the US Army and currently living on the Pacific coast of Washington state, USA. I'm a chronic migraineur, so I'm on here very sporadically. My passions are environmental issues, various social and political issues (equal rights for everyone, pro Second Amendment), and JRR Tolkien and his works. My hobbies are crocheting, jewelry making, reading, anthropology and whatever happens to strike my interest at the time. I enjoy reading in several genres, including several areas of non-fiction and have been known to thoroughly enjoy research, both online and in a library. I also enjoy reading fan fiction in several fandoms, including ***mock horrified gasp*** slash (homoerotic) fiction.
Now for the obligatory WARNING: I'm a rather opinionated person and I post those opinions here. They range from the political, to religious, to personal and pretty much everything else. In fact, strike that rather opinionated statement, I'm very strongly opinionated. Those of you who know me in real life already know this, so you can expect the same here in my journal. If you don't want to know what I really think about something, don't ask for my opinion, for cryin' out loud!
I have been known to write fan fiction on rare occasions, which is posted under the same user name at Archive Of Our Own. Fair warning: I can't write my way out of wet tissue paper, but sometimes a story will pop into my mind and not leave until I write it down, at which point I figure I may as well post the damn thing. I also recommend fan fiction that may or may not include sexual content and/or violence, but I do try to warn for that in my recommendations. In case I forget, do yourself the favor and look at the author's warnings for the story so that you're not blindsided.
Note on friending: Please introduce yourself if you friend me and I don't already know you and don't be offended if I don't friend you back, especially if we share few or no interests in common. Also, please see above regarding my being cranky and opinionated (some of us decrepit old broads are just that way).
If you want to get nosy about my politics, I'm not easy to pigeon hole and I am absolutely neither a Democrat nor a Republican. If I had to put a name to my political beliefs, I would probably call myself a green (small 'g') Civil Libertarian. I voted for Gary Johnson in the 2012 and 2016 US presidential elections, though I did vote Biden in 2020 instead of casting a write-in vote for Bill Weld as I had originally intended (there's not a chance in any hell I would I have risked another 4 years of the Orange Wannabe Führer...I would as soon C'thulhu himself as that, thanks). I am so far beyond sick and godsbedamned tired of being given the choice between the extremes of the Left and Right and the current iterations of Stalin and Hitler.
Lastly, I do more reading, lurking and occasional commenting than actual posting these days. Chronic migraines and related issues do not make for cogent communication in any medium. And if you're into yarn arts, I'm on Ravelry as CrankyOldBroad. Hey, I believe in truth in advertising. ;-)
P.S. In case you couldn’t tell from all of the above, I tend to be verbose and frequently operate on a stream of consciousness setting. If that’s off putting to you, you might want to give my journal a pass.
