In the Settings app, I have used Accounts > Your accounts to remove a Microsoft account ([email protected]).

In Settings > Accounts > Passkeys, I still have one passkey which matches this account ([email protected]). I have no other passkeys.

When I sign in to microsoft.com, Edge suggests I use this passkey. But then it says "Something went wrong. There was a problem signing in with your passkey."

However, if I try to delete the passkey from the Passkey settings page, it says "This passkey can't be deleted because it's required to sign in to this device".

How do I delete the broken passkey?

Note, the second error message is wrong. Settings > Accounts confirms I am using a Local Account to sign in to my device.

Create and save a passkey for your Microsoft account, following the official instructions.

Make sure this passkey is saved to "Windows device" / Windows Hello. If it suggests saving to something else, like Microsoft Password Manager, click the Change button.

I found this automatically replaced the broken passkey, with a working passkey. If you want, you could then delete the working passkey from your PC and your Microsoft account.

@cachius - Downvote was issued because the answer without the link is incomplete. Screenshots are very helpful. I could go to the effort of improving the answer, but after the personal attack, I don’t feel like it. Commented 8 hours ago

Most users in my opinion are not willing to spend 10 minutes writing an answer, and they are disappointed, that were not like Reddit where incorrect responses are considered helpful. I am not saying this answer is incorrect or inaccurate, but in my experience, very few people care about quality. Commented 8 hours ago

You can delete all passkeys together with Windows Hello's PIN, fingerprint and face data using

certutil.exe -DeleteHelloContainer -v

and signing out.

It will list deleted passkeys one by one. You'll loose the aforementioned biometric and PIN data also used for passwordless sign-in to Windows. On business devices you might be required to enter them again at next login. Or you just want that yourself to re-gain that option.
