Searching for an indentation problem, I found this question How to add indentation and this answer https://tex.stackexchange.com/a/392800/77017.

In the comments @cfr identified this as a "not so good" answer, because it is lacking glue.

So here is my question: what is glue and why is glue important?

I think Section 2 here: tug.org/TUGboat/tb42-1/tb130duck-glue.pdf could be useful Commented Sep 7 at 11:45

The question you link is very bad as it can only be answered by guesswork. And the comment you refer to is wrong: both \vspace{6mm} and \hspace*{10mm} are examples of manually inserted glue. Commented Sep 7 at 12:03

Thank you @CarLaTeX, the document explains what glue is. Basically it is white space, which can be stretched or shrinked. Commented Sep 7 at 12:14
