transfic is a community for sharing fanfic and discussions of fanfic in any and all genre and fandoms, about or from the POV of characters who are trans.

What Counts as Trans for the Community?

A transgender person is one whose gender identity (self-identification as female, male, other or neither) does not match what has been assigned to them (identification by others as male or female). This is regardless of how that person presents in their day to day life or what social, legal, medical or surgical steps they may take with regard to their gender presentation or identity.

If your story strongly features a transgender character, it belongs here. Writers of all backgrounds are welcome.

What Does NOT Count as Trans for the Community?

People who dress as the opposite gender for fun, self-expression, performance or sexual expression. (Transvestites, cross-dressers, drag kings/queens.) People who suddenly wake up in a different body. (Gender switch.) Characters portrayed as having always been the opposite gender than their canonical portrayal. (e.g. girl!Rodney McKay or boy!Uhura, aka gender swap.) Two people in one mind. (Bodysharing.)

The Rules

1. Be respectful. Critique constructively, not personally. No flaming, no baiting, no trolling. Offenders will be ousted at the discretion of the moderator(s).
2. The focus of the community is fic, not broader discussions about trans/gender issues. Please post and comment accordingly.
3. You may post stories here, or link to stories posted in your journal or on another site. All stories should be cut, with the following information available above the cut:

   Title
   Fandom
   Rating
   Characters (at least one feature character must be a transgender character)
   Short content summary

4. Because people of varying sensibilities will be reading, please include a warning if your story contains:
   • Graphic violence
   • Sexual violence or dub/no-con
   • Blood or other non-sexual bodily products
   • Edgeplay (knives/cutting, fire, extreme scenes)
   • Animals/tentacles
   • Character death
5. Please tag your story with the name of the transgendered character(s) and the fandom featured, as "char: character's name" and "fandom: fandom's name". See the community tag page for guidance.

What is Welcome in transfic?

• Stories that predominantly feature trans characters, including:
  • Canonically trans characters, like Max from The L Word, Orlando from the film of the same name, Dil in The Crying Game or Kitten from Breakfast on Pluto.
  • Canon characters who are "transified" for the purposes of fiction, like Black Soul Choir or Not Paige, Please
  • Original trans characters introduced into a universe to interact with a canon character, like Bright as Rain in the Palm of your Hand.
  • If you're unsure if your trans person is featured strongly enough or if your character qualifies, please just ask!
• Fic covering all forms and genres of fandom, including:
  • Anime
  • Film
  • Fine Art
  • Literature
  • Opera
  • Television
  • Theatre
  • RPF/RPS about RL trans people (please be sure to note RPF/RPS in your headers)
• Story requests.
• Beta requests
• Story prompts.
• Comment fic.
• Stories of all ratings, G through NC-17.
• Gen, het, slash and femmeslash.

With moderator approval, promotion of trans* related fandom events, fests, etc. can also be shared.
