Description

PCM means Pulse Code Modulation, it is used to digitally represent sampled analog signals.

There are various PCM systems for MSX but only that of MSX-AUDIO has been integrated into the standard optionally up to MSX2+.

Another official PCM system with timers replaced it as standard on MSX turbo R computers. This system has been used very rarely and when it was done, it was without using a timer.

Notes:

  • PCM can be played for cheap with the SIMPL/Covox DIY hardware
  • Appropriate software can also generate samples with the PSG, SCC and MSX-MUSIC soundchips, or even the keyclick
