As the title states, my Netbeans refuses to open; it has the opening loading prompt but it closes as soon as the text says "Done loading modules".

I currently have the newest versions of Netbeans and the latest JDK but I also have jdk 1.8 installed and set as my home.

Other people I know have simply installed JDK 1.8 and Netbeans 12.4 on their Macbooks and they were able to get it to run with little effort since there was a prompt when they opened or installed (I can't remember which exactly) Netbeans to choose their JDK version; this did not happen for me

Please help.

I tried deleting and re-downloading both JDK 1.8 AND Netbeans 12.4

I tried messing around with the Home path and config files and such but to no avail

  • Does the comment " macOS versions prior to 10.14.4 require the Swift 5 Runtime to be installed to launch Apache NetBeans 12.4. " on the download page apply to you? Commented Sep 30 at 6:51
  • And if you know where netbeans stores its config stuff, you can try lookin in there for a file called messages.log, which seems to be the logging output (For me its under %APPDATA%/roaming/NetBeans/27/var/log/messages.log, but I'm not on mac. Commented Sep 30 at 6:54

Run it in Terminal. Change to the installation directory and do bin/netbeans >~/nb-launch.log 2>&1 and inspect that log file in your home directory. Why use such an old version of Netbeans? Also get rid of that ancient Java unless you have a very good reason not to Commented Sep 30 at 7:05
