Is it possible to create an irregular polygon in Scribus - an open-source desktop publishing software? A Scribus user can create a regular polygon with equal sides and angles, as it is written in manuals and illustrated in these pictures below (from wiki.scribus.net).

Also, the user can edit the shape of already existing regular polygons. But want to know how to create a polygon of any desired shape at once, and without changing the outlines of an existing one, because it will be very time-consuming. How can I do it?
- 1I have found a way to create a free-form polygon. It is nessesary to use Bezier curve tool. After drawing the future polygon shape you can right click by mouse on the polyline and choose Convert to polygon and get finally a polygon.KVO– KVO2025-06-29 22:53:12 +00:00Commented Jun 29 at 22:53
- Do you mean like creating random irregular polygons? You can do that in Inkscape (also free and open source). There's a radomize value you can adjust in the polygons tool's controls. And when you move any of the polygon controls on the shape, it will re-randomize the shape.Billy Kerr– Billy Kerr2025-06-29 23:05:10 +00:00Commented Jun 29 at 23:05
- Billy Kerr no, I mean creating polygons of a certain shape like it is done in graphical editors, CAD or GIS software.KVO– KVO2025-06-29 23:11:25 +00:00Commented Jun 29 at 23:11
- 1Well, yes you can create basic PDFs in Inkscape, but Inkscape is technically an SVG editor. You can import SVGs made in Inkscape into Scribus, though. In fact, using Inskcape for graphics is much easier than in Scribus, as that is what it is designed for. Scribus is more of a page layout program.Billy Kerr– Billy Kerr2025-06-29 23:38:53 +00:00Commented Jun 29 at 23:38
- 1A word of caution however, Scribus won't see Inkscape's layers, so you may have to send the shapes to different layers in Scribus. The issue is that SVGs don't really have layers, so Inskcape uses groups instead, not true layers like in Scribus.Billy Kerr– Billy Kerr2025-06-30 00:08:39 +00:00Commented Jun 30 at 0:08
