I work with languages that use Americanist Phonetic Notation. It's similar enough to the International Phonetic Notation that Gboard's IPA layout can type all the characters I need except barred lambda. Is there some way to add a bar or strike through to a character within Gboard? It would be very convenient not to have to switch to a separate app to write these languages.

Note: I am no expert in phonetic notation, so would know where to start to find the correct symbol.

A possible workaround is to add ƛ to your Gboard's dictionary for all languages.

  • Go to Gboard's settings -> Dictionary -> Personal dictionary -> All languages
  • Paste ƛ where "Type a word" is indicated.
  • Set a shortcut (a word that will trigger the symbol to appear on the keyboard). I typed lambar. You can create a more original shortcut than mine.
  • Press the arrow on the top left to go back to the previous page. There is no Save button.

  • Go back to your document, then type lambar. The symbol ƛ will be displayed on the keyboard. You can then select it to insert
