I've already posted this question on stackoverflow but I figured this is the appropriate place for it.

I'm trying to follow steps from the official website: https://emacs-lsp.github.io/lsp-mode/page/installation/

When i do M-x package-install and type in lsp-mode it gives the following result in the *Messages* buffer and exits:

Contacting host: melpa.org:443 package--with-response-buffer-1: https://melpa.org/packages/markdown-mode-20250812.423.tar: Not found

How do I solve this issue? Is this a bug?

The current version of markdown-mode on MELPA is "20251028.412". Yet the version your Emacs is trying to download is "20250812.423", which is apparently no longer on the server.

Most likely, you need to run package-refresh-contents to update the listing of packages (and versions) that are available. Normally, that happens automatically when you run list-packages. I'm guessing you either did something to prevent that, or you've had the package-menu open for a very long time.

EDIT: Or it could be that the MELPA server is having problems. Seems likely given the many recent internet outages (Cloudflare, AWS, etc.), though I have no idea how MELPA's hosting works. FWIW, I am noticing connectivity errors from elpa.gnu.org and elpa.nongnu.org right now. Of course those are not the same as MELPA.

  • FWIW, MELPA seems fine (now). Commented yesterday
  • I ran M-x package-install RET lsp-mode RET again and it works now. It seems that it was a issue with melpa servers but your answer is informative so I'll accept it Commented yesterday
