$\begingroup$You mean constraining the transformation to a certain axis or plane? Blender is not "playing fool" with you, it simply does not keep this information. Because it is not 3DS Max or Maya. You mean like press G to move the object and then for example Shift+Z to only move in the XY plane? And next time you only have to press G and still it only moves in the XY plane? No, Blender does not do that. Or if that's not what you mean, please add more details for clarification.$\endgroup$
