It's actually a pretty easy code. The first step was to transcribe the code so I could play with it and then do a simple frequency analysis. Lo and behold it looks like it's a substitution cipher. The top six most frequent numbers are:

The only surprising thing here is the comment from the 'expert':
Dr Olsson, who has worked on hundreds of cases for police around the world, told the trial: ‘The thought process behind the code shows someone who is very able, very intelligent, very skillful.’Really? Looks like someone who'd read the simplest childhood book on codes to me. Not saying he's an idiot, but hardly very skillful code making.
