chazpure: oh, you can't help that, we're all mad here (Default)
Missed posting this weekend, alas!

I've seen a lot of memes about "what you miss most," or "the first thing I'm going to do, once this is over" about life in quarantine, life before and after this pandemic. Some are funny and some are sweet, and some make me sniffle.

Mine is just...sigh...sooooo trivial.

Not noticeably unlucky, at least hereabouts. :-)

A fairly quiet day, work-wise. I got a few things finished and off my running list, which feels good.

We watched an episode of some organizing show on Netflix tonight - not bothering to look up the title, as I don't think we'll bother with another episode.

This has felt like a very long week, and I find myself mildly surprised that there's still another day to go before the weekend.

Lot of stuff going on at work, and no real letup in sight for quite a while. Although I had planned to take a couple weeks off, that's been down-sized to a couple days, as we're not going out of town as we had intended.

[personal profile] psyfic posted the other day that we'd scrapped our plans for heading up north, and the more we read about the surge of cases across the country, the happier I am about that decision. We're still going to have to take some time to deal with my mom's house up there, but it's going to have to wait a while.

In the meantime, it's not like we don't have plenty of projects around this house. *rg*

We just watched The Trial of the Chicago 7 tonight on Netflix. Wow. It was really well done, and sadly relevant to what we're still going through now, fifty-some years later. Amazing performances from a remarkable cast. Not always easy to watch, but it needs to be seen. We don't do a good job of teaching this sort of history in this country. We need to do better, if we ever expect to learn how to be better, as a nation.

Funny things, habits. I've heard it's supposed to take two weeks to establish a habit, but only three days to break one.

I suspect that's meant to be about building healthy, positive habits. Some things become second nature and are really hard to shake, while others are a real struggle to train into yourself.

I've been very diligent about wearing a mask and social distancing when I've had to go anywhere, or if I'm planning to be outside for oh, anything more than 10 minutes, but I have a devil of a time remembering to mask up if I'm just stepping out the front door to grab something from the porch or pop out to the mailbox for a sec.

sigh

Perhaps I will put a note on the door frame.

Well, it couldn't hurt.

Well, it was a work-filled day and not all that exciting, so it's not like there was much to miss. *rg* I had to get up early on Monday and go into the office for an in-person meeting (brainstorming sessions are awkward via web), and I stayed up late to finish up a couple things for work - and then had to get up early again this morning for an online meeting, followed by another meeting, followed by another meeting...

Eh.

I'm kinda meeting'd-out, y'know? And need to catch up on sleep, per usual.

It's so nice to wake up and suddenly remember that we have a new President-elect, and that the orange asshat's days in office are numbered!

I didn't get as much done today as I had planned or hoped, but I'm not going to fret about it. I cooked a little and tidied a little, and read awhile, and cuddled the cats awhile, and I just finished baking a batch of gluten-free oatmeal cookies with sultanas and extra cinnamon. So the house smells nice, and best of all - cookies!😋

I do love it when the weather cools down and I get the urge to bake. Fingers crossed it stays this way at least a while!

Wonderful, wonderful day!

I let out that breath I'd been holding and it felt *marvelous*!

I saw the news on Twitter this morning and went to wake [personal profile] psyfic and tell her. Her mom had texted as well, and after she'd replied, we spent some time -ahem!- celebrating.

And then it felt like all the exhaustion of the past weeks, months, years came crashing down, and we curled up and caught up on some much-needed sleep.

Watching Joe's speech this evening, when he gave a shout-out to Delaware, I teared up thinking of our dear friend Lynn, who was from Delaware. She spoke with him many times and used to say what a kind and considerate man he was. She must be looking down from the hereafter, grinning from ear to ear.

And since I was already teary, listening to a speech that included actual plans for the work to come, not just a babbling jumble of meaningless, incoherent wordslaw, just kept the waterworks going.

There is so much work to be done, so much cleanup and rebuilding, but we can start that in the morning.

For now, this is a time of joy, and we're celebrating it.

Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada...it's looking so good, and I am so ready to celebrate, but it feels like I've been holding my breath, waiting for an "official" call, not wanting to jinx it. The news about PA and GA flipping was was pretty darned fantastic to hear, though!

But I'd really like to release that breath and celebrate!

Anyhoo...

I was hunting back through old fic the other night and ran across my never-completed Snupin fic, "Far From the Tree" - a bit of silliness - snupin pr0n mixed in with a pastiche of Keeping Up Appearances.

I really ought to dust it off and finish it up; I had a lot of fun stuff planned for the rest of it, but got stalled out with other projects and never did write it. Hrm. It's already 17K+, and it'd probably take at least that much more to finish up what I'd planned.

Heh - well, it *is* Nanoblomo, isn't it? This is probably as good a time as any to start up on it again.

I shall consider it. :-)

We're coping.

[personal profile] psyfic's been reading me "choice" tidbits of the idiocies that have been proliferating as we wait through this maddening process, so I'm cussing more than is customary or polite, but [personal profile] psyfic is tolerant, and the cats just look at me with their heads tilted, trying to figure out wtf is mama's problem?

Anyway.

I made a rather nice beef stew yesterday, if I do say so myself. For some reason, a couple months back I really got to wanting stew, which is a weird thing to want in the roasting SoCal summer heat! Anyway, the weather had cooled down a smidge, so I got a nice chuck roast and a bottle of Cabernet, and last night I hacked up the meat, seared it to get a good brown crust on it all, simmered it in broth and wine, then tossed in some veg, simmered a while longer, and ta-da, stew!

It was yummy. 🍲😊

So, how about more cat pics? A bit of a break from refreshing the results every few minutes...

We've managed to stay away from the news and most social media today, until this evening, when the polls closed and we started tracking the various reports.

At the moment, it looks like we won't have a full count until sometime tomorrow, but I'm choosing to believe that the majority of this country will vote to reject hatred and bigotry and callous, casual cruelty, will vote for sanity and competence and for turning away from the precipice.

It's been a long day; it's been a damned long four years. My beloved and I are going to turn in early tonight.

May it be the start of a better world for all of us in the morning.

Day 2 of NaNoBloMo and not much in the way of inspiration strikes, so how about a cat pic or two?

On the recommendation and encouragement of my beloved [personal profile] psyfic, and inspired by [personal profile] lore, I thought I'd attempt NaNoBloMo this year and see if I can get myself back into blogging.
