Niama Makalou & African Soul Band (LED,1978, 45T)

Who' said that Bamako wasn't disco ? Versatility is the word to qualify malian musicians. This 45 is the proof that there is only two kinds of music for them : good one and bad one....Niama Makalou gives us a great disco track on A side with "kognokoura" with a great chorus of balafon and pastoral flute, the B side is a beautiful traditonal song about Drissa Coulibaly, the chief of a great family of the ancient Malian Empire. It's the only record, from her, I was able to find. It has been recorded in 1978. I have put a filter on the sample, the version in the zip is the same than on disc, sorry about the poor quality of the B side track...

Qui à dit que Bamako n'était pas disco ? La polyvalence est l'une des grandes qualités des musiciens maliens. Ce 45 est la preuve qu'il n'y a que deux sortes de musiques pour eux : la bonne et la mauvaise. La face A de ce 45 malien est une bombe disco, chantée en bambara, avec chorus balafon-flute pastorale s'il vous plait, et intitulée "kognokoura". La face B est une merveille traditionnelle, "drissa coulibaly" qui raconte l'histoire d'un illustre ancien de la famille Coulibaly, importante dans l'histoire de l'empire malien. Les deux morceaux sont portés par la voix, géniale, de cette griotte dont visiblement, c'est le seul enregistrement sur galette (j'imagine que pas mal de K7, en revanche, doivent tourner). Le disque date de 1978.
J'ai mis un filtre sur la version que vous pouvez écouter en sample, ce n'est pas le cas de celle que vous pouvez télécharger. Désolé pour la qualité, pas terrible, de la face B, mais sa voix vaut vraiment le détour.
