Perfect latin 45 with those killers cha-cha tracks from Eddie Palmieri and his first Conjunto, La Perfecta. There's only one track of Kako, "La lengua melodica", the three others are from one of the first album of the little one of the Palmieri brotherhood.

Great Tico Record compilation. The Bands on this LP are, for the most part of them, the seminal ones whom will wright the most beautiful letters of what Masucci and pacheco will call "Salsa" for their Fania Label. At the moment of the recording of those gems, the term wasn't use yet. But here they are : Ray Barretto, Alfredito Valdes, Johnny Pacheco, Charlie Palmieri, Orquesta Broadway and so on....

Enjoy the great "Pachanga" formation, typical in the end of the fifties, beggining of sixties.The cuban influence is everywhere....

Excellent compilation du label Tico Record. fondé à New York en 1948 par un fan de son cubain. Le label sera racheté plus tard par Fania. Et justement, on trouve sur ce disque les fondations de ce que Jerry Masucci et Johnny Pacheco (les 2 fondateurs de Fania Records) appelleront plus tard "la Salsa"...et surtout les fondateurs, entre autres Ray Barretto, Alfredito Valdes, Johnny Pacheco, Charlie Palmieri, Orquesta Broadway...Tous dans la formation typique de l'orchestre "charanga" cubain. Un délice pour les initiés...

Last show for Radio Grenouille (Marseille) with an exclusivity, "Everything that has breath" from Nigerian trumpet player Olumuyiwa Kunnuji. He was recruted by Féla himself during the nineties, now touring with Seun Kuti & Egypt 80's. He now lives in France, and working on his own first album. Wish him all the best.

Orquesta Tipica Ideal - Ya Llego (Artol, LP)

Excellente production de Pancho Cristal, producteur avisé, entre autres, de Chéo Feliciano ou Ruben Bladès et personnage important du label new yorkais Tico Records. Il semble que ce soit le premier de quatre albums ou best of, de cette formation d’esthètes, visiblement réunis par ses soins et sur laquelle j'ai du mal à trouver des infos. On retrouve pas mal des musiciens de ce disque dans d'autres formations comme Tipica Novel, notamment mon violoniste favori de l'univers de la "salsa", Alfredo de la Fé. Je serais curieux de savoir qui est le personnage qui parle par dessus le morceau "Africai", peut-être le Sénégalais Laba Sosseh...? Si quelqu’un a l'info, je suis preneur. Quoi qu'il en soit c'est ce qu'on appelle un album de puristes...

Great production from Pancho Cristal, the man behind Chéo Feliciano or Ruben Bladès and one of the man behind the great label Tico Records.The LP seems to be the first of four albums, or best of, from this purist formation. Some of the guys here features on other similar orchestra from the period, like Tipica Novel, especially ma favourite violonist of the "salsa" sound, Alfredo de la Fé. I would be curious to know who is the guy whom talking behind "Africai", perhaps Laba Sosseh ? If someone knows...just tell me.

Rey Roig y su Sensacion "A touch of class-Por la maceta" (salsoul 1975) mp3

Some great latin music today. Rey Roig is cuban, he has began his career as a trompet player with the Conjunto of Luis Santi at the beggining of the fifties. During the sixites, he was with Pete "el conde" Rodriguez and Alfredo Rodriguez in Conjunto Sensacion. He started to lead his own band " Rey Roig y su Sensacion" in 1972 and made three LP with them. This one is the third and last one, recorded in 1975 for the famous Salsoul label. It's a great exploration of the different mood in latin music : cuban son, puerto-rican bomba, colombian cumbia and brasilian samba...The track "Brazil 2000" is one of my favourite, but the all album is a must. As far as I know, he's still alive, he lives in Miami, his wife whom was the back up singer of the band is no longer alive.


Salsa aujourd'hui avec un super disque du cubain Rey Roig. Il a commencé sa carrière au début des années 50 avec le groupe de Luis Santi, et à la trompette s'il vous plaît ! On le retrouve, toujours souffleur, dans le Conjunto Sensacion aux cotés de Pete Rodriguez et Alfredo du même nom durant les années 60. Il faut attendre 1972 pour le voir sortir son premier album sous son nom. Celui-là est le troisième et dernier de sa courte discographie en solo. " A touch of class-Por la maceta" enregistré en 1975 pour le fameux label Salsoul Records. Un disque-kaleidoscope de la musique latine : son cubain, bomba portoricaine, cumbia colombienne et même samba brésilienne pour clôturer ce disque avec "Brasil 2000" qui est un de mes favoris. Rey Roig est, d'après les infos que j'ai pu trouver, encore vivant et vit à Miami. Sa femme qui était choriste dans son groupe est maintenant décédée depuis quelques années.
