So, in The Old Guard movie, the scene where Nile ties Andy in the plane has always bugged me.  Andy tries to turn, finds her arm held, jerks her arm to confirm it, then turns and looks to see what's holding her.  Now, it's human nature to try something again to confirm a problem... BUT it feels more normal/realistic to me to look at the problem first, then make the confirming tug -- even if it's obvious that the confirmation won't change anything. It really makes me wonder why the director wanted it that way; it just never feels "right" to me.

So today I was watching a rerun of 'The Pretender'.  In this ep, Jarod was helping a young woman. She decided he'd helped enough and she was determined to kill herself instead of fighting her cancer, so she handcuffed him to the bed in his sleep so she could slip away without him.  As he wakes, he tries to move, his arm is stopped by the cuff, he looks to see why, and jerks his arm again to test it.

That's what seems to be a normal human reaction; it's certainly how I react if a part of my body -- or something I'm working on -- seems to be stuck.  OTOH, maybe I'm falling into confirmation bias.  Maybe Jarod's behavior is only what I'd do, but other people might follow Andy's reaction.

I can't stand on a street corner surveying people but I can ask my DW/LJ friends. So, to save the bother of commenting... let's see if I can make a poll. Answer: yes I can!

But you can still comment if you want. Inquiring (or nosy <g>) minds want to know.

Or -- I've seen a suggestion that it's unlikely Nile could secure the strap around Andy's arm without waking her, (I agree!) and that Andy didn't react so she could see what Nile planned. If that makes sense to you, I'd like to see your thoughts on that idea.
