It never fails to amaze me how damn near anything can lead to thoughts of Jim and Blair. Follow...

I'm driving home from town today, and a song comes on the radio that I don't like. Not hate, like that other song, but I don't want to hear it, so I reach over and push the 'play' button for my cassette.

Now that Sentinel Secrets has disclosed all the authors, I can put my story here. Not that it was a big secret -- I think Paula said that everyone guessed mine correctly. That's quite an ego-boost; thank you all.

Title: Zucchini, Tomatoes and Corn, Oh My!
Summary: Blair becomes embroiled in a tasty enthusiasm.
Style: Gen
Size: 7,380 words, about 13 pages in MS Word
Warnings: None
Notes: My thanks to LKY, who graciously gave me permission to mention her beloved Uncle Buck in my story.
Feedback: Not necessary, but I certainly do like to get it!
Email: If you prefer not to post a comment that everybody can see, you can reach me at starwatcher307 -at- livejournal.com

So, after I beta'd [livejournal.com profile] castalie's story, I was telling her that I had cleaned out the passenger side of my car. I have a bad habit of tossing my newspapers and magazines in the footwell, to be picked up "later". As I told Castalie, the bottom of the pile was over a YEAR old! She said, "it actually made me think of Jim and Blair. Dunno why. Or, no, I know why, must be the idea of anal!Jim chiding Blair for never putting things away when he's supposed to and stuff like that." My muse perked up her ears and said, "Ooh! There's a story in there!" So here it is.

I'm finished!!! The last three parts (which actually fall in the third section of the story) haven't been beta'd yet, but I just can't wait to post. I'll put it here for now, then copy it to my fic journal after I hear from my beta. If any of you see a goof, meanwhile, I'd appreciate you pointing it out.

So, here it is --

Title: One Bright Summer
Summary: Sixteen-year-old Jim is training for a steeplechase, and meets seven-year-old Blair hanging around the stables.
Style: Gen
Size: 32,635 words, about 63 pages in MS Word.
Warnings: None
Notes: Started Aug. 26, 2006, finished March 3, 2007.
        2. Written to a four-year-old prompt from Elizabeth. I hope she enjoys it.
      3. My gratitude to Becky, whose transcript page is a wonderful resource for Sentinel writers. Several lines of dialogue are lifted from "Switchman".

I have a large enough friends list ::waves to all:: that some of you have no interest in The Sentinel fandom, and probably don't have [livejournal.com profile] caarianna friended.

Arianna is a prolific, talented author in both Hercules and Sentinel fandoms (with a few one-offs here and there); she really gets into the "inner man" and takes her readers along for the ride. She's recently become hooked by Supernatural, and turned her writing talents in that direction. (Don't worry, Sentinel fans. She assures us that she currently has two more TS stories in the works, and several more in mind; she won't be leaving us anytime soon.)

"War Wounds" follows directly after the Season 1 cliffhanger ending, written before any of the spoilers started floating around. Call it speculative fic of what might happen after that scene (really, what a lot of fans would like to see, I think).

It's gen, 21,000 words (about 40 pages), full of angst and h/c. If you're an SPN fan, check it out; I think you'll enjoy it.

Since Arianna is not "in" the SPN fandom, she doesn't really know where to announce this story. She's sent a notice to Ghost Hunters - http://ghosthunters.cairdean.com/ - and SPN Notice Board - http://community.livejournal.com/supernatural_nb/profile       But if you like the story, feel free to pimp it wherever you think it appropriate.

PS - she's leaving for a week's cruise today (lucky lady!), so may not be able to answer comments until she gets home.

([livejournal.com profile] arnie1967 already posted this, but I like to leave the URLs in clear, in case someone wants to copy and paste elsewhere.)

When the original nomination list for the Burton Awards was posted at Cascade Times, someone ::whistles innocently while avoiding direct eye-contact:: suggested that, next year, it would be nice to have a category strictly for holiday stories. The list mom liked the idea, and ammended the voting process to include a write-in vote for Favorite Holiday Story.

So now there is another poll to vote for a couple or several favorite TS holiday stories. (Angie suggests that, because there are so many nominees, votes for several are okay.) No time frame has been given, as yet, so I don't know when the voting will be finished. However, I'll announce the results here when they show up.

The nominated stories are -

And to those who didn't win - better luck next time. Voting was tough; all stories nominated were excellent, because TS is blessed with marvelously talented writers. It came down to degrees of preference and shades of taste. Truthfully, everyone on the original nomination list (and many who weren't) is a winner.

For those who want direct links to the stories, both winners and runners-up, check out my nomination post here.

Boy, when it comes to LJ posting, it's either feast or famine with me, isn't it? But I have a big sappy grin on my face, and I just have to let out.

For Moonridge Auction 2004, Jain Mailander offered to put someone's pet in a cameo role in her next "dogsenad". (The stories are compiled here, if you haven't read them, and are interested.) Well, she just sent it to me, and I was charmed. It's a nice continuation of the previous stories, and she gave "walk-ons" to two of my pets - Simba, a terrier cross, and Lucy, a long-haired white "mutt-cat". (You know, we have a word for a mish-mashed breed dog, but not for cats; why is that?)

So anyway, I hope she'll post it in a day or two (I told her she didn't have to wait a week). And when you read it, Simba and Lucy (both now deceased) are mine. Simba was just that sort of bouncy, excitable personality. Lucy wasn't such a grump as she appeared in the story, but it was needed for the plot. *g* Gee! This is fun! I don't know why I'm so excited about it, but I guess I might as well enjoy it, and invite you all to share in my pleasure.

Okay folks; Angie has given permission to post the nominated stories and authors for the Burton Awards off-list. So those of you who are not members of Cascade Times can see which of your friends and favorite authors are in the running. I have to say, it's an impressive list, and deciding which "best" to vote on is going to be difficult.

Oh, and just in case you missed the excited mentions from [livejournal.com profile] carodee or [livejournal.com profile] arnie1967 or [livejournal.com profile] jessriley, *g* - I just happen to be nominated in a couple of categories, too. Puffed? Oh no, not me! ::snicker::

Unfortunately, since the list mom received so few off-list nominations, she's decided to keep the voting to Cascade Times members. But, I dunno... maybe if you really want to vote, you might drop her an email.

But enough with the explanations; the list is here )

Wow! I can't tell you how honored I feel!

This morning, she declared war against her writer's block, and asked ten people to give her a fandom, pairing, situation, and five words, and she'd write a drabble. I was lucky enough to be one of the first ten (over 100 people read her journal). And the story she gave me is a little gem. So, I present for your enjoyment --

For starwatcher307, who wanted:

Fandom: The Sentinel
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Situation: A good day. (Gen or slash, no matter.)
Five words: jeans, street, bell, water, yellow

A Good Day

Two months.

Two months had passed since he’d moved in with Jim under circumstances so bizarre that his mother would have probably hit a meditation record trying to process the situation.

But two months later, he was still Jim’s roommate. It had to be the longest damn week on record.

The tide washed over his shoes and soaked the bottom of his jeans. He started out of his reverie and took a moment to take in his surroundings. The sun was sitting on the horizon; yellows and oranges, reds and purples painted the sky with broad strokes. A lonely bell chimed across the harbor’s water, and sandpipers ran back and forth in front of the waves.

Two months.

What did it mean?

A car horn blared behind him and he turned toward the street to find his partner leaning out the window of his vehicle. “We just got a call, Chief. If you’re done communing with nature, I could really use your help on this one.”

Blair grinned widely as he jogged toward the SUV.

What it meant was that he was needed and happy. Beyond that, only time would tell.

I was feeding the horses before school yesterday morning. As I left the barn, I heard the soft rumble of thunder in the distance. A little storm had passed before I woke up, but even so, thunder is rare around here.

I thought of what Jim would hear, and what Blair would hear, and all of a sudden, this story is just SHOUTING to be told. Not much of a story -- just a scene, really -- but I can see it so clearly. I just ached to sit down and start writing, but I HAD TO GO TO SCHOOL!!! Aaarrrggghhh!!!

If you ever see a story posted from me about Blair musing on the rain, you'll know where it started.

I might have time to start writing after I eat dinner, but then will I ever get to bed? Decisions, decisions...

ETA: The plot bunny eventually turned into (several months later) Of Rain and Rainbows.
